Load profit calculator: what does that load really pay?
Put two loads side by side. Add the deadhead and the empty miles it takes to reach your next load, and see which one earns more for every mile your truck turns.
Compare two loads
Fuel, truck payment, insurance, maintenance and your pay, divided by total miles. Not sure? Leave it blank and compare rate per mile.
Estimates only. They leave out tolls, accessorials and time, which can change which load is better.
Want every load checked like this, before it is booked?
That is what a load brief is. On your free load plan call, we work out your minimum rate with you. After that, no load reaches you without the full math.
How the numbers work
The formulas are simple. The discipline is using them on every load.
What is rate per mile driven?
The total rate divided by every mile the load costs you: deadhead to pickup, loaded miles, and empty miles to your next load. It is a more honest number than rate per loaded mile, which ignores the miles you drive empty.
How do I work out my cost per mile?
Add up a recent month of costs, including fuel, truck and trailer payments, insurance, maintenance, permits, factoring fees and the pay you need to take home. Divide by the total miles you drove that month, loaded and empty.
Why estimate empty miles after delivery?
Because a load that drops you in a weak market forces you to drive empty, or wait, to find the next one. Those miles belong to the load that put you there.
What does the calculator leave out?
Time, tolls, accessorials, lumper costs and detention. A load that pays well per mile can still be a bad week if it ties up your truck for two days. Use this as a first filter, not the final word.
